here is a pic of my d-series dohc but its not a ZC...
the unit is a d16a9 and its 130 bhp standard. its currently in pieces having the ports bored out and the inlet manifold being polished inside and out. should be about 140-150 bhp once its finished with filter and exhaust.

Im not sure if you were kidding about the whole not a ZC thing but.......
The motor you have (D16A9) is actually a ZC. Is exactly the same motor as a JDM DOHC ZC, just stamped diffrent for the ERUO market. I have friends that use the Rover manual for matinece on there ZC motors. Its the same thing. Just so you know.......... :D

i think the cam was slightly differn't as was the ecu...

all the ecus were PM7 although the d16a9 had a CO2 sensor on the actual ecu...
besides the fact that the EDM PM7's didnt have the speed limiter the JDM did, but i think the fuel maps were the same for the D16A8 and JDM ZC PM7...
also the D16A8/9 had lower compression then the ZC...

Are you sure about that CRXgator? I have never seen that these motors had different compression anywhere.
To have different compression numbers, you would think that the d16a8/9 would have a different Piston. However from what I've seen it uses the same domed piston that the ZC uses. Also it seems to put out the same hp/tq numbers.
Is there information somewhere that says otherwise? Id really like to see it if there was. I know many people use the UK CRX Shop manual for there ZC motors. Are they getting the wrong numbers? I’ve never heard, nor read anywhere that these are different motors. If there is somthing that says they are diffrent, I'd love to read it. Where did you get this information?

compression has nothing to do with how the engine is put together...you can use a del sol vtec manual for any b16a...its the same thing...ill try and find the info...

d16a8/9
~125hp
~106 ft/lbs
7200 redline
9.3 compression with cat. converter
9.1 compression without cat. converter
ZC
~130-135hp
~106 ft/lbs
7200 redline
9.5 compression
search dogpile.com or google and you will find tons of info, dmoore had some info so does http://www.geocities.com/teampimports/zcfiles/zcspecs.htm

but the blacktop ZC only makes 130ps...or 128hp. People confuse ps for hp. The 135 figure is from the browntop...of course, it's 135ps, not hp.
And that's straight from Honda's press archives.

the d16a8/9 have 130PS
d16a8 is 9.5 cr, d16a9 is 9.1 cr
zc has an 02 and a knock sensor, d16a9 has a co2 pot and no knock sensor, d16a8 has an 02 sensor and no knock sensor
all info from uk honda workshop manual and EPC. i've probably missed a few more differences

and .4 difference in compression
thats a pretty big difference.

Hmmmmmmm then I got another questions.
I am rebuilding my DOHC ZC soon, and was going to use the UK CRX manual to put my ZC back together. Will all my tourqe Specs be off if I use it as my guide? If so where can I find the specs and information I need?
Thanks guys, good to know BEFORE I put it al back together :D

Well... i see a lot of confusion and not true knoledge. I have a ZC-1 and i can assure you pp that it has more juice than a 160hp vtec, even in stock condition.
I send a pic of it and then if anyone wants, i can send honda manual details.

Juice is measured by the ever popular buttdyno.

Hello!
well, i also have a zc-1 engine in my 1987 crx and i have always passed by the 160´s until 210km/h.... after that they have a slight hedge.
By the way, my zc-1 had a crack problem, but all the rest is fine.
Anyone wants parts?
Bye
