Ok, ive had this CD player in my car for about 2 years. I got it at Best Buy at the thanksgiving sale. Its an Xtreme Sound brand, whatever that is. But anyways it just started doing this today. It will play then keep playing but i wont have sound, and if i tap my dash with my fist itll start playing again. So im thinking its not a short. Any ideas? It really bugs the fuck out of me not to have music.

sounds like a short to me, but probably a short in the unit itself, check all your connections to be sure first though

fuck, thats what i was afraid of. I checked the wires to the sub, and the front two door speakers ( i dont have any in the rear deck). Noting bad there but i re-did the heat shrink around the wire ends. Probably the cheap ass head unit. Thanks guys

I would pull the cd player out and look at the connects in the back of it. If one of them are loose that may be why hitting it makes it go back on.

The budget stuff tends to last no longer than 2-3 years anyway, Shove a CD head cleaner through it first, 2nd guess is a minor short somewhere, the fact that you hitting the dash corrects this sometimes points more to that, rather buy the $50 unit that rotory20 has than getting that one fixed........a decent repair job on a CD player could be about 20-30 bucks.........
