i'm not surprised... giants all around you asking you to give up your trump card? I don't think it's going to happen without a fight...

Well I'm hoping the neighbors will persuade them to com eback to the talks and if not I hope they stick to embargos that will eventually lead to the crumbling of that dictatorship - but of course the fear exists that before that crumbline takes place the North would the weapons at their disposal to lash out at the coutries who are hampering it's growth (even though from an outside perspective they are doing it to themselves)

just keep those fingers crossed that no shit hits the fan...

i'm for an embargo, but the problem with it is that it helps with the dictator's power. Since he controls everything, even the media, people become fanatical about their leader who is "protecting them from the outside world"

North Korea isn't the only country to try and bully the world... :america:

But this is a very sticky situation.

Damn, beat me to it! ;-)

Do the people of NK even know that he is telling the world this?
Would it matter?
Could they do anything about it?
Is it a bluff?

Kim Jong Il is absolutely fucking nutso. They've let on that they have nukes for a while (years I think), but this is an official statement which translates more like "we are prepared to use them." Kim Jong Il's father, Kim Il-sung, is actually still the 'president' of NK, even though he's been dead since 1994. Il-sung was declared (god)-president for eternity. That's no joke. They put it in their constitution! It's no wonder that his son is totally off the wall too.
I think though, that it'd be a mistake if the West tried to start a war of preemption with these guys, cause all of the North Korean brass are psychos and I don't think it's beyond them to start nuking anything and everything.

We'll see what happens.

N. Korea doesn't have ICBMs... (intercontinental ballistic missles)... so their nukes can't reach us. Of course, they can hit S. Korea... they'd be fucked.

Here's the problem... N. Korean submarines and Chinese submarines are pretty similar. Plus, they're going to be in the same waters... if we mistakenly sink a Chinese sub, we're going to be fucked.

damn.......I've been following this shit and I think the main reason that bush hasn't bombed the crap out of NK yet is that the NK's are supposed to already posses real WMD's......funny though, cause the only thing that's stopping them from being attacked like Iraq is the fact that unlike Iraq the states actually suspects NK to have WMD's.

They did this similar deal back in the early mid nineties, except this time I think if not dealt with properly will turn into one huge fuckupp for all.....
