not going to happen.
Despite what people think of CARB (California Air Resources Board)... they know what they're doing when it comes to clean air and efficiency. From what I remember, using ethanol to make gas less polluting doesn't work well...
Why don't they just put a big tax on cars/trucks and have a tax credit for hybrid cars like everyone else?

they could start treating cars like japan does. don't they tax heavily, require testing every so often, and have permits to park and what have you, hence why we can get motors with such low mileage?

they also have engine restrictions that keep the power under a certain level and certain displacement.

If they did that it would be good and it would suck.
Economically it would be good...
for ethanol producers in this country, and keeping that money out of Saudi hands.
Unfortunately many cars, including ours, are not designed to run on 20% ethanol. Because the fuel system was designed for using gasoline, increasing methanol that much can throw off the AFRs. Stoich for ethanol I believe is ~9:1. So if we run that much ethanol we could lean out pretty bad (especially in open loop). I'm not completely sure but I don’t think that the fuel system is compatible with ethanol either. Seals and lines may start to crack, then leak, and then start a fire.

I know... WTF?
It seems like people with pickups and SUVs get the tax credit. All they have to say is they use it for work. Shit, I use my car for work... gettin my ass there and back everyday. Why cant I get it too?
I've learned that EVERYTHING is financially motivated.
Auto makers make more money selling SUVs. They use more gas so that makes oil companies happy. And the politicians like getting lobbying money from the oil and car companies to make these laws. Heck, our energy policy is written by oil companies. Everyone is in bed with eachother. It sickens me.
