Does anyone have one or looking to get one? GET IT!! I got one for x-mas....yes me a 29 yr old dad of two got a "toy" car for christmas. Let me tell you these things are cool as hell. After some searching and a little ebay hunting WOAH theres a ton of mods fot these 1/28th scale rc cars. Years ago I used to race 1/10 onroad and offroad but due to expenses I gave it all up. These Xmods are the next best thing. Theres motors and batteries out there to get one of these tiny racers over 45mph wow!! I just ordered a ton of alloy, titanium and carbon fiber mods for mine. So far its basicaly stock with a bearing upgrade and stage 2 motors. so much damn fun and I just found out today they race these localy woohoo. Today I'm picking up my AWD mod to run in the awd stock limited class. Theres a few classes you can run in I never knew it! 2wd and AWD Stock (radio shack parts only), super stock (chassis, knuckles, alloy parts but stock radio shack stage 2 motors and 4 cells), modified (any motor and upgrades + 4 cells) and modified unlimited (up to 8 cells). Right now with just motor, bearing and tires it does about 20mph I'd say and tons of fun. Go get one!!

Black Civic. My wife tried to find the blue civic but everywhere was out. I'll try and post some tonight if I remember. Nothing special just a plane jane black Civic coupe. I might run by the hobby shop and look at some models in a close size. I know they carry 1/24th scale hatches :)
Heres a good link http://www.rcbutlers.com/index.html and search Ebay for "Xmods" so much shit comes up. I spent another 60 bucks today for no reason lol. Upgrading all the plastic crap with alloy and carbon fiber. Heres the ebay store I ordered some stuff from http://stores.ebay.com/Dinball_Mini-Z-XMods_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQsclZallQQsotimedisplayZ2QQ tZkm
edit: theres a real nice looking Lambo diablo body but 50 bucks is a little steep when I'm just going to bang it all up :( the guy also carries an Audi TT and a mercedes body.

I also used to race 1/10 off-road, in fact, i was sponsored by a company called Losi regionally. It consumed my life and my dad's life for about 3 years...but my parents realized baseball was a better past time and cheaper, too...
I also used to race 1/12 scale carpet cars because i was given one by Jay Halsey from Associated when they were trying to get me to come to their camp...those things went really fast, i think i recall 70mph!
At any rate, what is the range on these things, and, at the races, are there enough frequencies to keep everyone controlling their own car with no ghost rides? i cant believe people race those tiny things!

back from the dead! i want one of these...or a mini-z. like i mentioned, i used to be heavy into off road buggy electrics and 1/12 pan cars. i wanted to get back into them but its just not going to happen- no local track, too much money, no time.
so...i have a few questions about them-
anyone get a custom wound/ magnet setup for theirs? If so, what brand?
i really just want to be able to play w/ it outside on the street and in the house w/ the dog, but i don't want something that will break super easily....
i hear the mini-z are waaay superior to the xmods, but the price double. any thoughts?
what parts are must-haves for performance and reliability?

I'd love to get back into R/C as well...I used to race a Losi XXT, and a Team Associated pan car...it was really a lot of fun, but I can't find any decent place to run anymore, and I'd much rather put the money towards my civic....
Anyway...I thought the x-mods and mini-z's both used the same motors, but I could be wrong... I have an x-mods supra with the 4wd kit. It's a pretty quick little car, actually...

Yea x-mods is the way to go for the $ you spend. I'm stuck with my 1/10's I wanted to get thex-mod but I got too many dang hobbies ... so i'll stick to the 1/10's and I finally got my electric tc3 running. and got heck of alot of 6cell batts to use. Wish I had started with the xmods or mini z's first.

i tryed putting the 1/24 coupe and hatch model kit bodys on but there too long.

SWEET ASS!! i've been looking for rc's to have fun with during the winter time...but never found a scale i liked and could afford...i started out with a radio shack cheapo RC car, i use it in the snow for fun...then started getting into the tiny little 1/68th scale cars...but i couldn't use them really...this looks like the happy medium place i've been looking for...

guys, i had to do it. i got one of the new gen EVO versions-
http://a8.cpimg.com/image/86/98/54334598-0d6b-02000180-.jpg
the dog hates it!
i ended up getting the AWD conversion, bearings, stage 2 motor with 9/23 combo, the lil' tool kit and a fast charger w/ the NiMH batteries. I will go big on this i know it, but for now it's waay too fast for the area i have to use it. I am curious about the range with this thing and also i need to see about getting maybe higher profile tires because i can't image this thing will run on asphalt! its SOOOO low....
i figured hey, if i don't like it, i can ebay it, but i really am impressed so far!
thanks for the input guys!

i've been playing with gear ratios and am checking out www.atomicmods.com (http://www.atomicmods.com/) about their lithium ion battery upgrades and FET stacking..
this shit is insane. what i can't believe is people spend upwards to 700$ on some of the setups out there. a radio shack toy. 700$.

well, i love mine and have had alot of fun with it in the past two days but last night i discovered a problem (defect) that is evidently well documented and is being resolved by Radio Shack (yet to be confirmed by them until i call corporate)
the rear knuckles of the EVO generation kits, specifically it seems the lancer model, come from the factory with hairline cracks on the bottom. This means that they will break at the slightest hint of impact. I don't crash mine and i tested it w/o the body and it brushed against a garbage bag in the garage and it exploded the cracked part.
I will be calling radio shack corporate tomorrow to comfirm this recall. the solution i've seen is they are sending upgraded bits out.
Also, i have yet to confirm if GPM is making alloy replacement rear knuckles for the EVO generation chassis...

looks like i will be going the KYOSHO route after all-
last nite i broke a rear knuckle on my new XMODS....after doing some research, this evidently is a rampant problem with the EVO generation (new) xmods. what happens is out of the box these parts are cracked in several places, which is true- when first took mine out and was studying it, i noticed that the bottom of both rear knuckles had a hairline crack, but the crack was identical so i figured it was a calculated aspect of the design. Turns out that is not what it is, lol. Every single screw hole on those knuckles has cracks. So i called radio shack corporate and despite people claiming within forums online that this problem is recognized by RS, so much so that they have redesigned them...i find out this is not true. RS knows nothing of it. So i went to a local store (not the one i bought this from on friday) and asked them to open a new one. Sure enough, the parts are cracked BRAND NEW. So i decided to take the whole thing apart, take all the accessory 'hop-up' parts off and put them back into their packages. I took it all back to the store but because i bought this from a radio shack 'dealer' and not a corporate store, i have to return it to the store i bought it from...and they are closed today lol.
When i first found out about this issue i was enthralled with the product enough to just invest in some alloy versions of these parts and move on with my life, since there is a company which makes alot of these parts in aluminum, however, as it turns out, they do not make this particular part in alloy, so at that point i was just over it. For the price i paid for all the stuff for the XMODS ($170 total), i can just get a mini-z.
i am anxiously awaiting the verdict of my return effort tomorrow. they better not give me any shit at this store.... it's bad enough i have to explain this problem to them too, whereas i already explained this to the other store. <!-- google_ad_section_end -->

You will see!!! yeah the sti is gen 1, they have been on sale for 29.99 to make room for the evo gen (gen 2)
the gen 1 is actually a little more resilient than the evo chassis, but there are plenty of improvements to the evo vs. the gen 1 like battery placement, electronics are more protected, etc. if you decide to get a evo gen, make sure you call radio shack and demand the redesigned knuckles, because i can guarantee yours will be cracked out of the box.
i bought a gen 1 xmods civic si the day before i took my evo back just to bash around with the dog. i could not resist the 30 dollar price tag! i fear that with the mini-z i am going to get nuts with it....

i have the skyline and i keep putting off buying the Li-Ion batteries for it..i need to get a new steering servo also mine refuses to centerdo you mean the servo will not return to center sometimes from a turn either way? did you check the tiny wires going from the servo to the board? The solder work on the board can be thin where those wires join and a small break/ loose solder can cause your issue.
4ges,
the mini-z ready set, which is the chassis pictured (mr-02 midmotor), complete with hobby class radio, electronics and ready to rock car cost me $139...
complete front spring selection, set of 3 carbon fiber H-plates, Kyosho ball differential, complete rubber shield ball bearing set, GPM grade 8 (softest) tires, wheel tape, PN Speedy ball bearing motor and alloy wheel nuts cost me like 120 shipped....
so for about 300 bux i have a setup that is completely competitive anywhere and can go upwards of 30mph.
