I put on some 16 inch rims and my car needs to be lowered badly. After 8 years my shocks are gone. I'm bouncing around like crazy. I hear good things about Tokico Illuminas but dont know what springs to use. The roads here in NYC are pretty choppy, so I wont drop it more than 1-1.5". Would any brand of spring work with the Illuminas?
Thanks!

Mostly, yes.

I was looking at Vogtland High performance Lowering springs for $125(ebay), they seem like a nice progressive spring.

Doah, getting your springs off ebay?
Your on your own on that one.
Springs are a very important thing to me,
I would not go that route on the springs.
Go to your local shop and pick a set up.
Support your local shop!

I would like to support my local auto tuner but 1, i'm poor and these guys mark everything up by like 100%. 2, my friend and I would do the work ( he built a ~12sec JRSC GSR CRX). About ebay, ya you can get some really crappy stuff if you arent careful. Just make sure the parts are new, genuine, and check the feed back rating. My friend said I can lower the car getto style by putting bricks in the car and heat the springs with a torch! I dont think we will be doing that! LOL!! Oh one more question, do the spring rates have to match the shock uou are using?

I would call eibach or possibly progress. I think eibach makes some of the best, if not the cheapest. Progress is also good in my experience, at delivering a good total package if you simply call and ask their .02. They told me up front my factory shocks weren't really the hot ticket on my si with their springs and sway. Then, I upgraded and saw a world of diff with koni. Then, had a saggy rear and progress sent me 2 new that day. Had to send the old ones for 'analysis.' You'd be suprised how helpful some of the places like Progress are, I think they really want your car to hook but that is just my humble opinion. If you are super concerned about 'matching' I'm sure you know tokico makes springs for their shocks, only drop about 1-1.5"

thanks for all the feedback! I'll probably get the Tokico kit with the springs and shocks. Would I need to get a camber kit if I was to only drop 1.5"? My tires are rather pricey and dont want them to wear out in a month, they wear out fast enough by the way I drive  I am a little concerned about my wheel tearing out the inside plastic in the fender when I hit a bump. When I bought my rims I did not know to get then with an offset. I've heard people roll the fenders for more clearance, but that is something I would rather not do.

I have the illumina 5 ways with ground controls (Eibach).
The important thing is to match spring rate with damping rate. If you are going to be driving in NY with a 1-1.5" drop, I would look into 400#-450# with the shocks set to 3 or 4 front and 350# - 400# with the shocks at 2-3. Mine have been great, they're old now and need to be replaced and I'll probably stay with them
I like Eibach because you can order springs in various rates.
I have Eibach prokit springs with Tociko Illuminas.. ride is awsome. Drop is about 1.4 " all around once the springs settle

I just got the illuminas with the pro-kit. I thought it would lower it just 1.5" or so, but after the springs settled it dropped like 3". FUCK!!! Exactly what I dident want. When I turn hard the tires rub against the fender, especially when I hit a bump. On the highway the ride is awsome though, and handles much better than stock. Anyone here know a cheap fix?
Thanks

it sounds like something is wrong. I don't think that if it's advertised as a 1.5 inch drop that you would drop beyond 2.0 inches.
Does anyone have any advice? seen anything similar?
good luck to you

I would go with Ground Controls if you are racing on autox otherwise recomend H&Rs Sports. I have heard good things about Eibauch and Tein as well.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned neuspeed springs. They have a variety of different springs to chose from. I, myself, have the illuminas with sportlines and the drop is nice. The only thing about it is that the rear springs are looking a little saggy now. After about 2 years on my 88 sedan dx, I swapped them to my 90 crx si. I think that the weight of the sedan's rear "molded" them to the sedan, and, therefore, It looks a little off on my CRX. I'm looking at neuspeed or eibach race springs for my next set. The illuminas are nice, but most scca guys arount here and ALT reccomend koni yellows.
