A lot of people say that if your going to get coil overs then you should also get new shocks because if you don't then you will damage your stock shocks within a month...WELL...I am really low on money and can't afford the extra 4 shocks and just want to lower my car...PLUS I have a friend who has coil overs on stock shocks and hes still going strong for more than 2 years without replacing the shocks...He says that I don't need new shocks. What should I do?????

I would recommend that you change the shocks as well.
The type of coil-overs that I think you are refering to are not really "coil-over". True Coil-Overs come with shocks as part of the assembly. So if you are looking at sleeves for the shocks that allow ride height adjustment, I would recommend getting new shocks. New shocks like KYB or Tokico will work fine. Blown shocks or worn shocks are even worse with sleeves, and in my mind unsafe. If you are not racing the car - looks only - , then sleeves may be ok for your ride with your old shocks.
Like everything else, it all depends what your end goal is going to be...like a business plan helps me keep on track with making money, a game plan helps me in winning a game. If you have a plan, it all becomes very clear and easy to decide where and how to go to the next.
What are your plans for your ride? Show, Road Race, Drag, Paper Weight?

If you're really low on money, why are you modifying the car? Just doesn't make sense. Anyway, I don't know if you've made a decision yet, but as someone who was looking to do work to his car years ago while I was still in college, I can speak from experience when I tell you:
Save your money and do it right the first time! Save for a set of Tokico "Blues" or KYB "Whites"... Both are non adjustable and will run less than $300 per set.

Oh even drozone for that matter. They are really cheap shocks/struts, and are adjustable. Go for 250.00 shipped on ebay and that includes the Coilover/sleeves.

If you are going to drop your car for daily use dont get coilovers you can get some H&R, Tein, and Eibauch springs for around $150 dollars and get some low cost quality struts like GR2s or others. That is my opinion.

If you really low on budget and cannot afford shocks. You can go with your stock shocks and buy a set of Ground Controls/Skunk2 coilovers. Don't buy other brands like DropZone, MaxSpeed, and others. If you do you'll get crappy ride after 2-3 weeks. Because it will blown out your shocks quicker than you think.
honda93: Don't be mean to the guy. There are alot of people on here that are modifying their car on a low budget.
well can you save up for shocks later??
just put the coilovers on now and get new shocks later on down the line.
be ready to get new shocks though.
because yes there are ppl who last on stock shocks,
but thats just the exception to the rule, 9out of 10 blow their shocks really quickly.

honesly man i had a set of fake ground controls on my first hatch with kyb non adj shocks. this set up rode real nice. now i have real round controls and tokico blues and it feels real similar to the old set up. ucan find these fairly cheap like here and i can get u a set of shocks for about 175 for tokico or kyb(i prefer kyb after having both)

people claim the kyb gr2s are similar to stock, but when I put them in, I definitely felt an improvement over stock. It could be my old shocks were getting bad but they weren't completely blown either.
I've heard people say you can't drop too low with the gr2s though since they aren't meant for extreme drops.
I got mine off ebay for around $170 I think.

I had KYB GR2 riding on my stock springs and I tell ya hella good. But when I put cheap DropZone coilovers. It felt good for awhile until it kill the shocks like 5-6 months after that. I went through 3 set of KYB GR2 until I had enough with coilovers went back to regular springs.

slightly off topic, i've heard that coil overs are bad to get due to the threads on the height adjustement get stripped. honestly, how true is this rumor?
