I hope they find the fucking bastard who did this!!! Granted, it takes a lot of balls to leak a game of this magnitude three weeks before its actual release date. At least Microsoft has the integrity to stick to their release date of Nov. 9, instead of arbitrarily pushing it out. And guess what, it was leaked in FRENCH. Hmmmmm.....

that's amazing... i see a long jailtime in the thief's future. I mean, they just cost Microsoft lots and lots of money.

This has happened before though... i remember another FPS game a long time ago being leaked to the net before the release date.

Microsoft should never have made these games copyable.... they are just asking for it. That is the only good thing Gamecube has done... made media that's difficult to use outside of the Gamecube itself.

oh shit! potential $100,000 fine! do you think its really worth it to be the first one on the block to have the game???

Hmmm, what might that be???

This situation is different though. The HL2 leak was the source code, meaning the game was still in development. This, however, is a leak of a complete retail package. The reason not much was done about the HL2 leak was because there were some legal steps valve could not take since most of the copyright laws only applied to the finished product. The most they could get the thiefs for is theft of private property, hacking, use of a computer for unlawful means (can't remember the exact charge, but it's pretty close to that), and some other computer charge.

However, since this is a full blown finished product leak, copyright laws can be exercised to their full extent. They're gonna have this guy's ass on a platter if they catch him. And I highly doubt that he'll only be paying $100 grand by all this is over.

There was another one... longer ago. I can't shake the feeling that it was a Westwood game (remember them?). Maybe it wasn't an FPS game, but it was something good. And I remember the story was that they used a wireless modem to get it out... pure spy stuff.

At most it would just be a decompression tool since it's a dual layer disc that it's coming out on, or a utility that sees through the PAL format.

haha.. suprnova.org is down... i bet it's because of halo 2. too much trafficIt's probably because they know that Micorsoft knows about them, and they don't want to pay the "$100 grand per instance of sharing" fine. Smart move on their part.

yet suprnova has all their operating systems, office suites, and games (pc and xbox) and yet they've never done anything before. crazy.

i think it's just traffic... suprnova never hosts the actual file. They just host the torrent files which are like addresses to where the actual file is located (and being shared).

Plus, I believe they're located offshore somewhere... at least, they have a bunch of mirrors that are. I never checked if the mirrors were up still.

That keygen sounds like a surefire virus to me. Another reason just to go buy the game when it comes out.

I know they only host the torrent files, but if microsoft even catches anyone providing means to distribute it, they'll whack them with a fine. (Then take that and multiply it by the number of people who got the torrent file.....) I checked the other day and the only Halo 2 parafonalia on the site was E3 vids and screenshot galleries. Looks like they're playing it safe and previewing files now before posting them on the site. I'm just glad the release date is the same.

Given the option of pissing off the richest man in the world (that could pay my own mom enough money to carve me up like a pumpkin) or not pissing him off......oh I would go with....not.

i don't see why people are so impatient they can't wait till the release date? personally, I'd rather have the excitement of buying it the first day it came out. not being afraid that i'm going to be raped royally by bill gates himself (literally) because I couldn't wait a few weeks. Just a dumb move IMO
