How much stock spring retainers are strong ? Enough to handle aftermarket spring like Single or dual Skunk2 ones ?

thanx

thanx a lotsome people dont want aftermarket because they are lighter and the "think" that aftermarkets will be "weaker."

I've heard of many using aftermarket springs with stock rets.

EDIT: but i wouldn't

what kind of damage did that do? how long did they last?
stock or aftermarket springs? how high of an rpm where you taking them to?
now you got me scared about mine..

i right about hit vtec and booom, big boom from my engine. i was a little far from home so i forced the car to drive a few more blocks. came out: retainer broke in half, valve contact piston, piston blow up, rod break, crankshaft throwaway, head smashed to peaces by the valve being pushed up, dizzy got stuck and broke, motor practically useless.

on stock springs, just a 59300?
shit.. i might change mine now then... its just that aftermarket retainers only have a life of around 40,000km

if you change the springs and use stock retainers, buy new stock retainers. his had over 150,000 miles on them. (IIRC) they will last longer. they won't be as light, but I don't plan on reving to 10k on my sohc.

there are many people here who have stock retainers and others have aftermarket. if you're going full race then get the aftermarket. if you want to drive daily then get stock.

in my mind just get something other then your old retainers. mine hit 7200 rpms more than several times a day everyday.

be safe or be sorry your choice! note: i had a rare thing happen when my retainer broke, not most retainers break.

You should upgrade your spings and retainers when you do a higher lift cam. Its just something you should do. Its like changing a clutch with a new throwout bearing, you just do it because they go hand and hand.
