its a 90 lx im going for a black top ZC ive heard different things about steering knuckles on the LX version, anyone know for sure if they have to be replaced or if they will work, im going to run a ZC tranny and ECU with integra or possibly DX axles, but i keep hearing about steering knuckles, arnt they the same as any other civic why would they have to be switched out. also what parts would you guys recommend replaceing when i get this engine before i swap it in. any help would be great this is going to be my first swap so im kinda fuzzy on all the details.

steering knuckles are the same as the hatchbacks. Don't worry about it. If you use the DX/SI tranny, use your stock DX axels, they will fit fine. If you use the ZC tranny, use integra inner joints, and civic passenger side shafts w/civic outer joints.

LX has nothing to do with it...Sedan has nothing to do with it. The HF is the only oddball here, and that aint no stinkin' 4dr

Oh, I need more pics of your sedan, post them NOW....Yours is burgandy correct? Mine is a '91 burgandy LX. Awesome car :D

he's right about the hf thing. i have the same black top dohc zc w/my dx axles (dx trans). the zc trans is good but i didnt like the half shaft thing so i swapped back in my dx trans and sold the zc one.

have same car ((ef sedan)as you with black top zc mtr. ran a bit funny with the 89teg ecu. i still like the si computer better than it even though the lower rev limiter. if you can, get the real zc ecu, i can rev almost to 8k and doesnt run too rich like with the teg ecu. if you cant find this ecu, you can get a copy chip for about 200. pricey but worth it. AND FOR GOD'S SAKE :jesus: , REPLACE THE CRANK SEAL AND REAR MAIN SEAL BEFORE YOU DROP THE MOTOR!!! avoid the leaks... you'll thank yourself for spending the $30 total it will cost you. here is a link to the best zc page i am aware of...

cool, yeah i plan on doing the seals, water pump and timing belt before i drop the motor, also planning on porting out my headers from the 1.5 to fit the ZC

want some advice? the zc you get will probably come with the top half of the header already... you can get a stock b-16 downpipe and be shocked that they bolt up correcly together. still, you will need to modify just the bottom of the downpipe to mate with your catalytic convertor. i paid $15 if i remember right for the welding. BELIEVE ME! the porting thing will choke the crap out of your motor. NOT WORTH IT. trust me man, save yourself the headache. i mean this sincerely...

oh and thanks to whoever put the "approve" points on my profile.

ive already got about $200 into exaust and am trying to go the cheapest route i can; also youve been the only one to say dont port, ive heard that making the headers just a little bit bigger than the exaust ports will actually be better for the engine, than if it was the line up evenly, because it prevents exaust gasses from entering back into the engine via open exaust valves

:? thats not what i meant.of course you dont want exhaust going back into the head. what i' saying is you're gonna port a dx or si header that doesnt line up right, but you could have the right one for about $35... not worth it huh? been down that road man with every zc i used to do. didnt realize the difference unil i drove a friend car that was quicker than mine and mine was built! it was exhaust issues... you'll see what i mean. for means of money you may have to port for now until you can pony up the dough. anyone of us who has done a swap knows you have to manage the dough because it becomes expensive and you have to make choices that no one should have to make! i mean who could choose between a head gasket or a clutch? (okay thats a bit drastic) but you know what i mean. you get the idea.

i see what your saying but i already dropped money on headers for my 1.5 so i figure ill just make them work with the 1.6 but if i was going with stock headers your info would have been very informative because i never heard that the b16 downpipe would fit right up like that

2 WEEKS TIL THE ENGINE GETS HERE I CANT WAIT

oh yeah, i couldnt get the ZC ecu with the motor and trans, have any of you guys seen those chips on ebay to make a pm6 for a ZC, i was thinking about going that route because ive already got a pm6 from my friends crx that he ran through a sign and down a 7ft drop off, has anyone used one of these chips????

i have, it was a wannabe spoon ecu chip. was great but didnt like the lack of a rev limiter. you tend to go too high when you're bout to lose a run. but it worked better than a 89 teg ecu...

really thats the only thing i dont like about that chip, no rev limit, arnt you suposed to stay below 7800 on stock valve springs, i know on my dx it didnt have a rev limit and sometimes i would end up taking it up so far that the gear would pop out i dont need that happening

consistently took it to 9k but i completely rebuilt the motor with an aftermarket rebuild kit (factory specs though) before i put the motor in. runs like a champ even still... i know, not a smart thing to do...

What you can do with the PM6 (90Si Ecu) is chip it and run the Zc program. In case you decide to go turbo (which you eventually will) you can just change the chip. http://www.turboedit.org/index.php TurboEdit is your friend here. You can choose to run the NA maps or the Turbo maps. Also HMT is another good source for info if................err.......when you decide to go the turbo route.
