I have a 98 4 door. My stock struts/shocks were blown, and I mean totally gone. I was riding (especially in the back) on just my Dropzone coilovers. Anyway, I dont usually do this but I went all out on Tokico Illuminas and I love them. I hear from my local import performance places that those AGX;s or whatever suck and should fail within 15k miles. Best thing about mine is 5 way adjustable. When they were first installed, the guy had them set on 5 which is the stiffest. I set them to 4, front and back and it rides firm but sporty like a BMW. Very nice. Its like having 5 sets of shocks in one. I can change all 4 shocks in 35 seconds with a flathead screwdriver. So basically this is just to let you know.

Oh, one last thing....bang for the buck. Got mine new on ebay for $390. $200 install by professional at import tuner shop.

thats all

I've heard the same from a buddy of mine, he swears buy them and will never let anyone talk bad about them, nice to hear it reaffirmed. I may look into them shortly . I'm on stock GC's as of now.

Whoever told you that AGX's suck is a moron. I have been riding on them (4-way adjustable in the front and 8-way adjustable in the rear) + ground control's for a year and a half on my daily driver. They feel just like they did when they were new. I have mashed on my suspension pretty hard, too. I have nothing to say about Illuminas since I have never owned them, but dont discount AGX's. They are TeH SHiZZiT.

I agree 100%. KYB makes very good stuff. I ran a set of AGXs on my Civic with Eibach Pro-Kits for the better part of 4 years, and they felt great. I love the KYB GR-2s on my CRX.

Ok, well.. all I know is what some people at the shop told me. I was actually interested inthe AGX;s myself but decided if I choked up more money it would be a better product in the long run. Ah, who knows!

But I do like my Illuminas. Hey, where can I get some front and rear sway bars and the stuff to install them on a 98 civic dx sedan?

Well, given that KYB makes a less expensive product than Tokico, your shop probably stands to make more money by having you buy the more expensive strut. I stand by KYB- they make OEM parts for factory built cars, and they make awesome aftermarket shocks for a low price.

I don't know about your sways...

Try Suspension Techniques for sway bars.
Or Eibach, or Progress.

These companies offer a mounting method that doesn't require swapping lower control arms to make things work.

Or a junkyard and Integra parts.

had KYB GR-2s on my 88, and they were great for what they were, cheap as hell, rode pretty damn good considering i was using H&R sports.....put KYB AGXs on my 90 with the same H&R sports and its like a dream come true

KYB definately makes good product, especially when considering bang for the buck

Illuminas rock! I am thinking about going with the Illuminas R's in the next year. I think that the Illuminas on my ride are about to let go...47K on them. But this is just my thinking, nothing has changed as far as ride goes, they just have been on my ride a bit to long for my liking.

By the way, I run my fronts a step down in settings from the backs. You can really hook turns on a dime that way. Better grip in the front and less push. Try it sometime, if you have not found this out already.

I had KYB to begin with, before I got into the import scene....ya they sucked.

I had Tokico's on my EF and EH. Love'em to death!

I don't remember if they were name brand or not, let alone good quality, but I think procarparts.com sells a kit for like 80-100bucks for front/rear - upper/lower bars, check them out if you want....if anyone knows any info abou them dealing with quality post it please

I've had my illuminas for 1 month, and love them... (3 on the front, 4 rear) Although I think you got ripped on the install.. 200$? I had mine put on at a reputable import shop for 80$ in a mere 40 minutes flat.. Definitely worth the purchase

I have had my KYB AGX's for almost 2 years now. They still are working well, even after some "spirited" driving. Don't knock it, till you try it.

check out www.modacar.com for sway bars. don't go with progress or suspesion techniques, unless you get the swaybar/tiebar combo. as for the front, don't you have a stock front? I thought that all civics 96-00 had at least a stock front.

Okay I have a wagon so this is a little different. I am going to get a set of Illuminas in a few weeks and I am glad to hear that they rock. I figured that when I install the ill's I might put on a new set of springs or coilovers, and was looking for some suggestions. I currently am running skunk 2 c/o's for a teg. The guy at my local tuning shop was unsure what to put on my wagon and opted for the teg shock under the impression that the wagon would be a lot heavier than a civic. It isn't much heavier so I am going to get new springs. Thanks.

Tokico makes Illuminia-Rs, have you looked into them? They are true coil-overs and not sleeves.

I assume that they rock as well...

modacar, I know them! John at modacar is great.
I think that they are in Livermore CA now.
I need to get over there and see their new place.

Let me know if anyone needs a ref on them, many a mods they have performed on my Civic.
They were a sponsor at one point for a team in scca autox.
Good shop...
