I got a 91 SI tranny and the clutch is almost toast. I noticed when it started going that when i down shift, or get into a high rpm in, say, second gear. it makes the noise. Its almost like a grinding noise, but not a "grinding gears " noise. I wish i could like make the sound or something. everyone gets in my car and there like "WTF is that?". Is is from my clutch about to shit the bed, or something in the tranny. Its got 103k miles on it, i thought hondas were supposed to last? My buddy said it might be the front bearing in my tranny?? any one else have this problem?, or has any idea what im talkin about?
Your friend is probably right. Either the input shaft bearing or your clutch throwout bearing.

Is it a whining noise or a clunking noise, also of course I'd change the clutch and I whould get that front bearing checked out too.

yea, its more like a whining noise, good description of it. Does this mean i gotta get the tranny rebuilt?

It's deffinently your input bearings. I had the same problem with my 01 sedan. At around 36k I started hearing this whinning noise, so I took it into honda before the warranty expired (just bairly made it) and they said that the input bearing was shot, I guess i'm really hard on the trainy.
