who here has watches the initial D series? its really pissing me off that a massive three episodes comes out every two months. What kind of BS is that. even though i have seen all the episodes in Japanese its still really annoying that they do that. i want to be able to watch a cartoon without having to read. they need to hurry up!!!!!!!!but if you have never seen initial D you should.

and also how long is it gonna take them to get an initial d game out for the US PS2 so i dont have to go to the arcade and spend $20 a time to feed my addiction!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree!! It's a huge scam to make us pay 15 bucks for 3 episodes! And each episode isn't even the full race! I hate when they leave you hanging for 2 months right in the middle of a freakin race!!

i just came back from japan......played my share of the arcade version and bought the PS2 vers.

don't know if any of you are into modding your PS2, but it's easy to get your hands on the japanese version of the game....it's bad ass.

you don't even have to necessarily chip your PS2 to play import games, just get a flip top.

This is a real newbie question, but what's the difference between stages and the acts that I buy at Best Buy? Is it like the series vs. episodes?

learn japanese then... :) seriously, you really lose a TON of the drama/story with dubbing. First, they rewrite some of the dialogue AND the voice acting sucks.

Think of it this way: When cartoon companies pay big $$$ for their movies, they hire actors in real films who have little to no experience with dubbing. US anime import companies use people with even less talent. (although there are a few good ones)

Japanese anime companies hire PROFESSIONAL voice actors. These guys are as famous as real actors. Ok, sometimes they hire an actor or two for star power, but the majority of them treat voice acting as a serious thing and not just as a fun, side-project.

well i might have to bring out my burned initial d movies out so i will see which ones are good because ive deleted the movies from my computer but it actually follows the episodes in what you would buy in best buy.

p.s if you have a cable or dsl modem then you should download these pretty quick. they are the japanese ones with the english subtitles.

i speak english and could care less about lost translation, the whole story isnt real it's another story.
take from it what you willl i think that the core of the story holds well undeer both langauges.

no, i don't mind that it's in english anymore... I just don't understand why they feel they have to change the names. I mean, the street signs are still in japanese... is it not normal for some dude in japan to have a japanese name? In any case, Initial D has no story... it's just about beating the next car really :mrgreen: I still like it...

guess they changed the anime version... in their manga, at least their 1st edition had takumi delivering pizza.
Also, the anime version had the car sounds replaced in some scenes with Hyundai sounds :) I don't know if they fixed this too...

manga is the comic form... i guess the name is different even here because they don't come in comic book form. They come in normal book form, but instead using a comic strip style.

In any case, most anime starts in the manga form. I know what happens after the last Initial D episode that came out already :) The manga for Initial D is already finished I believe... you can get fan-made translated manga scans on the internet.

Honestly, the music is really gay... but it works as background music for the show. However, there's a mix CD (the 5th one) and it starts off with someone getting into an 86, starting the engine and reving it a little. Turn it up in your car... sounds pretty cool :)

the songs are all techno. Of course, the samples they used in the anime sound really good... but when you hear the whole song, it's kind of bad. English with heavy japanese accents and badly translated lyrics. Some songs are good... most are bad. As in, I would be embarrassed to play this in my car...

sez you... i have S-video out on my video card (s-video in, too)... I've watched them on TV before. And, honestly, the quality is just as good as when it aired on TV. Some of the older fansubs of initial D were crappy because by the time it got popular here, all we were getting were the Hong Kong bootlegs over the internet.

And, BTW, the sound is usually worse on DVDs. Yeah, you get Dolby digital ... but for a remixed english track. Tokyopop is not Skywalker Ranch... they don't get it perfect. The original japanese track is usually just old-school dolby on the DVD. :(

I only downloaded the important stuff... but then again, I had access to a free modem ISP through my department at school. They allowed 24 hour connections... kind of nice. I could download huge files over a day and not have it cut me off.

yeah, i love those FF races. I got bitten by the drifting bug and wanted an FR car for a while (still do). But now that I've seen the civic races... I've been wanting to try some of the FF techniques. I think I need to convert to rear discs and get a brake balance controller though :( My rear brakes hardly do anything at all.

I picked up the first 5 dvd's in stage I at a Mall record store. Found 6,7,8 at B.Buys, and then stages 2, 3 (the movie), and the first 4 dvd's of stage 4 (8 episodes) at the above online store.

I just ordered the #9 of stage one where Takumi battles Ryosuke at Akina. I've completely lost myself in Japanimation lately. I can't get enough of Initial D for sure.

Check out the site, singles are pretty inexpensive, and the box sets aren't too bad considering all of the actual imports are in Japanese only w/English subs.
