i was wondering if i could change the guts on two of the trannys that i have. seeing as the main shaft bearing (maybe it's the input shaft bearing)is making a not-so-pleasant noise in my si tranny, and my 4 speed manual tranny is in primo shape, would this be a worthwhile move? if not, i guess i can sacrifice my zc trans.

Hi, tried this, it doesn't work. The 1st and 2nd gear are higher in the 4sp tranny, and the linkage is different too. Get a DX trans your final drive will bolt right in. The gears are all the same except the final is 3.88 where the final SI is 4.25.

If you're willing to sacrifice the ZC tranny, just put the Si final drive and differential in it. Oh yeah - use the Si fifth gear as well. That will give you a nice, close-ratio gearbox on the first-through-fourth gears, a decent highway cruise (same as your current Si), and you'll get to use stock Si axles with it.
I'm *assuming* this is for an L3 tranny, which is what I'm basing the advice on. I'm running a hybrid tranny in my '91 CRX DX right now, and I *love* it. I'm using ZC 1-4, HF 5th, and Si final and diff. The acceleration is much better than a stock Si transmission, and the highway cruise is the same as my old DX - about 3600rpm @ 80mph in 5th gear.
Build it all into the Si case so you don't have to mess with the bigger opening on the ZC case for the intermediate shaft...
