when the engine is still cool, the clutch engagement is bad. It's like a grab-and-let-go kind of thing, and it feels like wheel hop when there is no hop. No matter what i do with the pedal it does it, and when it heats up it goes away. Could this be a warning that the clutch wants to blow to pieces? it's so annoying, my friends keep saying my car's gonna die and i should have bought a GM and a bunch of other stuff...

I don't know about the clutch, but no matter what, you should never buy a GM.

Do you have a aluminum flywheel? In my firebird when the flywheel is cold, like in the morning, it has trouble engaging, but once she's warmed up a bit it goes away, I think it is because aluminum gets rid of heat faster(for better grab) then a steel flywheel. And GM isn't that bad.

Although I have differing opinions (I won't say which way) about GM, Ford, Mopar, Toyota, Nissan, and Kia, I won't bring them up here cuz I could probably write a page's worth on each.

Anyways, its got the stock 18 lb iron flywheel, and the clutch has as many miles as listed in my signature (like 111k). Would bad clutch plates do this? It holds power fine without slipping, and it feels fine in the pedal (except that annoying tapping at idle, when the pedal's all the way down it has a very soft tap-tap-tap).

Take your clutch out and check the fingers and the springs very carefully, it sounds like they are coming loose, if they do come loose, more damage can accure.

shoot, i don't have the tools to do that. Looks like a trip to the garage, i'll probably get the light flywheel and a new high perf clutch installed while i'm at it.

Oh yeah--what are these fingers/springs that could come loose? My mechanic is 550 miles away, and I need to drive there for thanksgiving...I dunno what to do. If it's worked on here it just gets a cheapo aftermarket clutch set put on it.

Stupid clutch
