I was looking at a turbo site, and an option is "with internal Wastegate"
for $80
My question is what are the differences between internal and external? I read something about boosting limits with internal wastegates.

Thanks guys

For internal waste gates with a boost controller I was told that whatever the waste gate spring is rated for the rule of thumb is multiply it by 2 and that is what your waste gate will effectively will do without boost fluctuation. So if you have an 8 lb spring you could go up to 16 or so lbs with out boost fluctuation.

With external waste gates you can physically adjust the waste gate from the engine bay by adjusting the leaver connected to the waste gate or something. External waste gates are nice to have when it comes to adjusting boost.

FYI I have an internal waste gate with an Apexi boost controller and haven't had any fluctuation problems up to and to include 20lbs. Dono if I just lucked out or not but there you go.... My best interpretation of waste gates.

Thanks alot for the help. I think just for safetys sake i'm going to go with the external. Do you know if there is a m.b.c. that is adjustable from inside the car?

INTERNAL WASTEGATE
Pros:
-They are cheap
-The work pretty well
Cons:
-Known Spiking issues when used with large exhausts
-Dont have removable springs to raise boost pressure

External WG
Pros:
-Hold Boost extremely well
-Can buy various sized(38,40,44)
-Various springs available
Cons:
-Price
-Extra fabrication(dump tube/extra flange on manifold)

Another thing to keep in mind most turbos with internal wastegates cannot be rotated on the housing.

Why is that? I need to rotate my housing because the turbo outlet is facing upwards at the moment and i need it to face downwards?

you want to rotate your turbo housing so that the oil that has flowed through the turbo drops right down to the return feed. if your return feed is on top, it's extremely hard for the oil to escape the turbo, and you can run into some problems with it.
