SETUP - 96 del Sol S
Y7 block
Y7 throttle body modified for a z6 intake manifold
Z6 intake manifold with EACV mount blocked off
Z6 head
Z6 head gasket
Z6 timing belt
Zex/comp cams stage 2
AEM adjustable cam gear
Y8 injectors
Z6 distributor modified with y7 plug
Weapon R obd2 -> obd1 conversion harness
P28 ECU

GOOD – The engine starts. There are no leaks (oil, water, or vacuum), overheating, or problems starting.

BAD – The p28 is showing a code 14 (EACV), and the idle bounces between 1200 and 1800. BUT….when I hooked the old p2e (y7) ECU back up it idled perfectly and there was no check engine light. This leads me to believe that the p28 does not like the obd2 EACV.

SOLUTIONS
1) So I am thinking about just getting an obd1 EACV and mounting it on the intake manifold, and hopefully that will clear up the check engine light and idle problem.

2) OR… should I just unhook the IAC/EACV and adjust things using the idle bypass screw.

Please let me know what you guys think. Has anybody had a similar problem? Which solution sounds better? Is there anything I’m missing? Thanks!

you need the EACV i think. The best solution is to get one from a z6 (or b7) and put that on your manifold. Leave the other one alone or get a new TB. I think it's not working right because there it's a 3-wire unit and the ECU expects a 2-wire unit.

thanks makku. i didn't know about the 2 wire vs. 3 wire. I'll be going to a junkyard tomorrow to look for the right one

BTW, the y8 manual EACV is the same as the z6 i believe. It's mounted on the manifold like the EG's. All other EH civics have the 3-wire.

So the y8 EACV is 2 wire? and it will mount to the z6 manifold?

the manual y8 EACV is 2 wire. I don't know if it's the exact same as the z6, but it goes on the back of the manifold like the z6 one does. Verify with someone else before you get one.... i don't know if it fits.
