it seems the factory rev limiter on my d16z6 seems to be like right at 6800 or 7000 i would like to be a little higher. I know i can buy chips to upgrade the fuel and timing curve as well as chaning the rev limit. But i already have a jet vchip so i dont want to run both. Is there anyway that i can take the rev limiter off the car without a chip

simple answer is no.
longer answer is, that you would need to chip or reprogram the ecu to remove or raise the rev limiter. I would also advise taking the jet chip and throwing it as far as you possibly can. Some people actually report LOSING power with the jet. Also realize that the rev limit is to prevent you from exceeding the mechanical limitations of the engine. Its not there just because honda didn't want us to go any faster. Your engine will need to be built to safely handle the higher rev limit. also raising or removing the rev limit is pointless unless you are using a good aftermarket cam because the stock cam won't make anymore power and will actually continue to lose power as rpms increase.

ya you'll need upgraded valve springs. and if your going to go that route you might as well change the cam

you can raise your revlimit, but you're not going to be making any more power - you're gonna need at least a cam to take advantage of that higher revlimit, that'll only set you back around $300 and is definately a worthwhile investment, don't even bother with the chips, I wrote a nifty tech article on this forum a while back that explains why - do a search for it

i seem to me making good power with my vchip. But i just want to hit like 7500 rpms just a little higher than what im hitting now, so i might have to go the route of either a chip or reprograming.

I'd suggest re-reading this thread and actually putting your car on a dyno...

i seem to me making good power with my vchip.
ALL in the head...but i have seen a pretty much stock z6 on here with bolt ons and tuning and he made 127whp@7400 with stock cam.

i know i should probably put it on a dyno. I guess another question that i have is what is the factory rev limiter on a d16z6. Because i have heard in some cases that jet puts a lower rev limit on its chips.

ok see that is what am trying to say i know the tach redlines at like 7200 but for some reason i think my car is hitting a rev limit at like 6800 or 7000. At this rpm it suddley is shot down. Any suggestions

get a better tach and try again. your stock one is somewhat acurate.

for real???? how inacurate do you think my stock tach could be. thanks for the input.

well when my stock tach shows 7500 my autometer shows like 6500-6800

ok that makes sense. But mine looks like it is cutting out at like 6800 so you think it could be really reading 7200 on a better tach.

My stock tach is slow too. I got aem ems on my 99ex, and the stock tach shows 200 to 300 rpms less than what my laptop shows.

That really makes alot of sense b/c im not a honda expert but i know motors. And i can tell that my vtec seems to be kicking in at like 4200 or maybe lower(so my tach says.) I probably will just go get a aftermarket tach. thanks alot guys.

question : why do you want to have 7000+++ revs? r u trying to blow ur engine???
IMO just leave it!

ok... any ways to fix the stock tach or use an aftermarket tach but, still retain stock look? cuz my stock (95 z6) reads 7500 fuel cut & 4700 vtec.

mount an aftermarket one on the dash if you want to keep the stock one..
(thats what most would do since its hard to fit one in there)
I took the stock out of there for good.
