I was looking around to get a new engine and I came across Nipponmotors.com and they have a 92-95 ZC on there that should be compatiable with my 95 civic. My question is, does the ZC engine have the same block as the D series or is it a bit different? I don't want to have to replace my exhaust manifold or even an adapter plate for that matter, for my turbo setup if I were to buy this engine. Any of you ZC fans know the answer to this question, it will help me on my road to greatness.

Yes it is compatible as long as you have a D-series motor in it,you dont need mounts or anything and it depends on what nippon gives you , you could or might need axles or some other stuff, but this swap can work, but 92-95 is the black top ZC and there is usually a waiting list for those cause the second gen dohc zc's were a special editions in the jdm eg's.

but you're going to need to shave down the far outside corners your current manifold. No big deal though, I did it to mine, took about 2 min on grinding wheel. But don't buy your ZC from Nippon, I did and it took a month for me to get it and when I did they didn't send me the computer until like a week later. I also got screwed on the tranny section too because I needed the Intermediate shaft from a Jap ZC only and they japped me so I had to get one elsewhere.

That's the motor i have in my 88 crx right now, just finished the swap this week. Bolt-in/plug-in in 92-95 Civic but not in 88-91 Civic/CRX
i'm still usure about it's power though, some sites say the obd0 are 137 bhp while the obd1 are ~120 bhp I don't know who to trust, i wish my friend's dyno would have the HP testing program. argh
compression ratio is said to be 9.0:1 though on the 92-95 which would be pretty damn good for a little turbo project :D

sohc ZC is 120 hpim sure of. the dohc is around 130, possibly up to 142 like the UK D16A8 thats on ebay. I'd like one of them obd1 dohc ZC's, it'll have a lil more torque than my D15Bvtec. That grinding of the left side of your exhaust ports is cake with a dremmel and a nice bit :gir: .
"but don't quote me boy cuz i ain't said shit"- EasyE RIP.

Hey Spunky..
You happen to take any pictures of your OBD1 ZC engine? I'm looking for pictures of the hydro ZC half-shaft if you are able to take any...
PM me if/when you get a chance..thanks

As EG5 said before , the ZC is exactly the same as "our" d16a8 - only differences are the ECU (180km/h limited obviously...and prob some other minor differences) and i have been told the gearing is slightly shorter too - some one can clarify ? But yes- it should bolt directly in.

I have a 2nd gen DOHC Zc in my 5th gen hatch.I have it mated to a z6 tranny and gotta say i am pretty happy with it!:) Bolts right up.
I have a question tho, should i swap my Ecu,the ecu i am using now is running it fine.I am using the original dx Ecu,but what Ecu should i get if i need to swap.
