i have a pacesetter catback right now with my turbo setup. it sounds great and it's really quite/sleeper. i am having some boost spike problems though. when i first nail the gas it spikes to about 10-10.5 psi and then drops off near 8-9 psi. i was wondering if this is cause of too much back pressure. i already had my wastegate set at 6psi and then got a manual boost controller and turned it up the rest of the way. i would kinda like to stop this spike but i really like the muffler that i have right now.

did this spike happen before you put on the mbc? if not then i think the mbc is the problem.. if not then i dont know.. i always thought boost spike was caused by a boost controller or to big of an exhaust.. i could be wrong though since im still new to turbo cars.. how long are the hoses from the boost source to the mbc to the wastegate? i hear if you make those hoses as short as possible it can cure boost spike in some cases.. but this is only what i have been reading... give it a shot.. nothing to lose except the boost spike, if it works like it says in the books.. good luck

it was doinmg it before the mbc. the hoses are pretty short. i do have the hose on the turbp compressor housing though like it comes from the kit. i was thinking of maybe caping that off and hooking it into the manifold.

What kind of muffler is it? I have a flowmaster and never had a problem. Flowmaster is chambered so that would have a lot of back pressure.

backpressure on a turbo isnt great but its not causing catostophoic damage. shit alex just get a muffler with a 2.5 inlet or bigger and get an exhaust shop to fab up the pipe. bigger exhaust equals bigger #'s but you already knew that. :)

i think that is the exact reason for the boost loss. not to mention pacesetter sucks, sad but true. i would ditch that shit and get a canister muffler off ebay for $40 and go to an exhaust shop and have them do 2.5 piping for 100-125 or so. you'll pic up tons of power.

its not that pacesetter sucks, its just the piping sucks

I found that hte design of the Pacesetter system and the size of the piping was perfect for my old N/A Y7
However nothing fit right, nothing moounted right, and after less than a year nothing was removable. Rust hit that system hard...but the actual muffler was in decent shape.
Pacesetter would make a lot more money from their exhaust system if they corrected the connections and made the tubing out of a decent corrosion resistant material

Whats a good muffler that will sound decent and not cause a lot of back pressure?
I dono about the e-bay thing, anyone care to elaborate.

see the main thing i'm going for here is the sleeper look. and as far as bigger piping.... how much will it help with the greddy kit? the down pipe is really small. i have been thinking about getting a ebay fart can off ebay. maybe even spraying it black to try ans get that sleeper look.
anyways i guess not it comes do is, how do i stop the boost spike?

not to sound like a JDM whore
but Tanabe / Apex'i / Fujisubo all make good muffler systems for turbo cars
you could always buy a universal muffler and do the custom piping thing

my buddy has that on his si hatch with a type-r motor. it's also not a straight threw muffler. it looks just like the pacesetter.

if you want the sleeper look alex, get a stock gsr muffler and put on your car and run a diverter in your exhaust and just dump it out beside the passenger door. :) also borla makes a straight though universal muffler, 3 inch inlet/outlet and its all black. looks like a prelude muffler...

Get a flow master 60 sereies, get bigger piping, and a little bigger down pipe. It sounds like your turbo system needs to breath a bit more. With the flow master you can mount it where you cannot see the muffler and just put a stock style tip on it or whatever you want really even paint the piping black if you really wanna.
Pacesetter = Junk from every place i have ever heard Even the Domestic guys say they are junk and rust out in a year. I used to have a Saturn and nobody would buy the pacesetter stuff cause of this. So i don't see why honda's would be ANY diffrent.

Do not get a flow master... They are chambered mufflers and that is what I have. Its not bad but I just heard that chambered mufflers are a no go with turbos!
