Like topic said, I want to know what is the right cheap cam gear choice, at least 4 screws, and when it's 0deg, not 1/2 tooth too late... !
I don't want to pay 150$ for cam gear, but no more 39$ for cheap ass one on ebay with 2 screw made of wood.
thanx a lot !

I know you said at least 4 screws but I have the AEM cam gear (3 screws) and it works fine. Not that I am trying to persuade you.
Try e-bay there is always someone selling cam gears used for cheap.

A lot of people talk about the 3 bolt aem's slipping a bit. IMHO if this happens than there is something bigger going on. I used a 3 bolt str for a couple years and it did not slip once, and I never tourqued the botls to any specific number.
Used AEM's own for price/value

Maybe some of you have more advice ? it's 103$US + tx, + shipping, + border/custom, money exhange = about 150$ US, after that: about 200-250$CAN... TOO Much for me.
Somebody knows where I can purchase axed keyway ? if it cost to me about 5-10$ for 2-3 models, I'll be happier than 250. :)
merci beaucoup :)

AEM is the only company I have found that consistently has the proper tdc marks for valve lash settings and does not subscribe to the "0 is always inline with the keyway" crap...

Specials keyways with 1-2-3-4-5-6 and more degrees axe ? did you ever heard about it ? I know that normal key way is 0 !!!! But I wrote that AEM will be too expansive to ship here. I will find keyways instead of cam gear, if I not, I'll buy can gear around here.

Sometimes, and most often with car parts, you get what you pay for

I know ! but special key ways is little bit longer to try each one, but I can do it by myself. and no slippage for SURE !!!
I'll see all that shit soon :)
thanx a lot

I have the AEM 3-bolt gear on my Z6. Has been on there for about a year, I have adjusted it alot (retarding and advancing for nitrous and back to N/A), it has not slipped once. A suggestion though, I would replace the timing belt (use the OEM Honda timing belt ONLY) and all other belts and the water pump when you get it done. The crank on the Z6 needs to be taken off on the Z6 and the timing belt tensioner is way down by the water pump- oh its fun. Most of those things have to be either mover or taken off when u replace the timing belt- better safe than sorry. The other belts I used were OEM Honda, but I used a new Bosch water pump that I bought from Pep Boys. No problems since. Oh yea I have never tighted the gear to the suggested touque recommended by AEM just got it nice and snug, and then a little more. I would also cast a vote for the STR gears the bronze one looks pimp, and everything else they make is high quality, I have their high flow fuel rail on my Z6 that supplies the fuel to my fuel solenoid for my nitrous setup. If u take off and keep off the upper timing belt cover MAKE SURE NOTHING FALLS IN THERE EVER because you will be screwed!!! I keep mine off because it is easier to make adjustments to the gear but then again the cover is only held on my 2 10mm bolts. I also replaced my pullies with the AEM underdrive ones at the same time. Good Luck and make sure you turn the crank over the correct way!
P.S. I paid about $50 for my OEM timing belt at my local Honda dealer- expensive but worth it and a better peace of mind especially when spraying N2O at the track.

The STR/Golden Eagle y7/y8 gears are indexed wrong; the TDC marks for the cyls are off and the keyway is inline with the 12 o'clock mark which is incorrect for y7/y8-
AEM all the way!

Jarred...im going to dis-agee with you on the STR ones for a second. Maybe it is just the version I have, but I thought at first my old STR gear was the culprit. SO I took it off, compared it to my OEM gear. Everything was correct about it. I was actually shocked to say the least. The 50$ leftover stock cam gear I got was actually correct.

Note how the STR has the keyway inline with the 12 o'clock TDC mark...the keyway should be about 4 degs to the left, like the others...this means that every TDC mark around the clock will be off.

so str is a not so good ?

so str is a not so good ?Some of STR's stuff is fine, however, regarding their cam gears, I have compared their z6 vs. the y8 gear and there is no difference, where as there def. should be with the marks vs. keyway position as pictured in my last post...Kommon Sense has inquired to Golden Eagle about this issue (GE and STR gears are manufacturered by the same people) and has had no luck as far as I know getting a good explanation out of them. I even tried myself a while back and got nowhere- the explanation Vince gave me made zero sense...
Your safest bet is AEM's unit IMO

So there's only STR, and AEM who make aftermarket Cam Gears for the Y7? Skunk 2 makes only for the Y8 correct?

if its 4 deg out doesnt that mean it it for the pre96 engines as i have a z6 gear on my y7 and that is 3.7 deg out as is a z6 cam when put in a y8

if its 4 deg out doesnt that mean it it for the pre96 engines as i have a z6 gear on my y7 and that is 3.7 deg out as is a z6 cam when put in a y8well, this is the thing with the DC gear- everything, except the degree indexing marks and 12 o'clock TDC, is where it should be for a y7/y8. The 3, 6 and 9 marks are y7/y8, the keyway is in y7/y8 position in relation to the 3, 6 and 9, it's just that, for some reason, they shifted the marks up top @ 12 o'clock over 4 degs to line up with the keyway, like a z6 gear, and kept the rest of the marks of a y7/y8 gear.
