I messed up my tranny one day when I was in a hurry and was in reverse and threw it in drive and stomped on the gas before it was in gear. And ever since then I've lost reverse.

The tranny does as follows...

P - Parking gear locks like normal but can not free rev the engine. It's like it's in gear and I'm on the brake and pushing on the gas.
R - Same problem as park, car does not move unless on a hill.
N - Acts like it's in 1st gear
D4 - Runs like normal
D3 - Runs like normal
2 - Runs like normal
1 - Runs like normal

Any ideals what's causing this and a way to fix it?

no offense, but auto trannies are junk to most people. If you know how to mess with your car, just replace the tranny. It shouldn't take you more than a 1/2 day.

Shops that import engines often get them with auto trannies and almost nobody wants those, so they end up in the dumpster. Ask around...

Honestly, a lot of new cars nowadays have SEALED auto transmissions. You never change the fluid... basically, if anything goes wrong, you just replace it. They call them "Maintenance-Free" transmissions... just another racket.
