I have a set of HX rims that I would like to put some slicks on. The size of rims are 14 x 5.5"width, my question is does anyone make slicks for these rims? Would it benefit me at all have slicks on them? Or are they too narrow? Any info would be great!
Thanks

HX rims are 13X5. Are you sure you have HX rims?
Yes, you can put drag slicks on 14X5.5 rims. http://www.hoosiertire.com/Drtire.htm or road race slicks on 13x5 rims

Are you sure they are 13X5? Can anyone verify this? I am at work and can not check!

I did and they said it was 13 on tirerack. On the web search I did they said 14s. So can anyone tell me the truth?

14x5.5 i use nitto 555's. they work best on the street but suck for the track. i would say get some 205/55/14 bfg's.
btw: if you ever want to sell those rims let me know. i need one but i would like to buy 3 or 4.

thanks, I was. I was under the mistaken impression that HX and VX rims were the same. Thanks for the clarification.
However, my answer to the question remains accurate.

Ok, new question... If I get slicks for my HX rims, will they benefit me being the rim is only 5.5" wide. I wanna really hook up at the track.

I dunno. I don't drag race. However, I have to beleive that any slicks are better than street tires.
Here's some M/T that'll fit nicely. the compond it L8. You're on your own to find out if that's soft, medium ot hard.

no offense, but width of the wheel doesn't matter, it's the width of the tire that counts. with wider wheels you can get wider tires.

Thanks for the clairification. My friend and I have this arguement a lot. He is always telling me I need wider rims. So I can just get a wider slick and put it on my 5.5" width 14" HX rims?

Hey one more question... The chart says 6" rim width, do I need a 6" rim or can I use the 5.5 HX rim?

as long as it fits the width of your wheel.

I would think that it would work. most tires have a range of widths. I have sumitomo htr+'s 195/55/15, they say 5.5 - 7" wide wheel. but I would call the company and talk with them before ordering to be sure.

I know some guys that put 225/50/13's on a 5.5 rim. Hoosier says the minimum for that width should be an 8" wheel. Its what they had so they used it. They were auto-x and getting owned by guys with skinnier tires.
The object is to get the biggest contact patch down. You can just keep adding wider and wider tires to your 5.5 rims but at some point you're squeezing the tire on which reduces the contact patch. So, you pay for a 225 tire but the 5.5" wheel reduces the contact patch to say a 205. Why not then just save the extra money and buy a 205?
It is not as big a deal when you're drag racing because the side load on the tire is virtually nil. Its when you have to turn like in auto-x/road racing that it is so important to get a good tire/wheel combo.
The chart says 6" rim width, do I need a 6" rim or can I use the 5.5 HX rim? You're fine with a 5.5 if the recommended width is 6".
Hoosier recommends staying within 1" of the tire width. Like I said above; you can get a very wide tire to fit on the wheel but I'm not sure you'd get the maximum benefit.

this is from transex in another post...
20x8x14 MT slicks @ 12 psi on 14x6 rims.............
I launched at 7000-7600 rpms.
Those are 2" wider than the ones you're looking at but essentially the same tire. For an extra $30 you can try to squeeze them on your rims and hope the hook nicely
