I have seen a stock Y8 head with stock springs (intake springs on both sides) and stock ports, and a stock cam, make 480whp, with a genuine t3/t4 50 trim with a go autoworks 82 ar hotside. It was crazy. Car ran lots of 10s and trapped 139-136mph. It revved to around 8200rpm.

I still have plenty to learn, but from my understanding, you should be able to reach your goal with a stock head. Porting will just make it a little easier... If done correctly. If you are doing your own porting, I would stick to just cleaning up the casting marks (as already suggested) to get a little better flow. I wouldn't take off any more than that, because without a flow bench or prior porting experience there is no real way of telling if you are helping or hurting your flow.
